Wrong Cathedral

Normally one (this one, anyway) receives news of errors with gritted gratitude (that is, a smile of thanks masking gritted teeth) – but it’s just been pointed out to me that one factual error in the book relates to an event which I should have got right because I was there. In Amateurs in Eden I state that Penelope’s dance career ended when she injured her foot while rehearsing for the opening of Coventry Cathedral. It was, of course, Liverpool’s new cathedral that was being opened. I have a clear memory of watching one of the performances (pre injury) – but needless to say, one fails to check one’s own facts. My mistake is a wonderful example of the pitfalls of memory and biography – almost perfect.
