I’ve just found an excellent review of Amateurs in the Scotsman, Sunday 12th Feb. Excellent not so much because it is appreciative, though that obviously helps, but because it recognizes what the book tries to stress – rather than focussing on LD’s shortcomings as a young husband, the reviewer, whose name I can’t find, emphasises what Bohemianism too often meant for the womenfolk, ie. their own interests becoming subservient to their menfolk’s. With some reviewers, I feel they’ve been reading a different book than the one I wrote; with this person I feel they have really ‘got’ it. Hurrah.
