Hungerford

On Saturday I am going to Hungerford to the wonderful bookshop there which is hosting the Hungerford Literary Festival. I’m sharing a slot with Sarah Fraser, whose terrific biography of Simon Lovat, The Last Highlander, was published this summer. Hungerford is a fascinating town that I visited in the spring when I was researching Tutti-day – unique to Hungerford. Any town that celebrates its special day by getting a couple of young men to go round the town toasting the residents and kissing any woman they meet has to have a good heart. Here are the Tutti-men – and it should be a good event on Saturday, even minus lots of random kissing.
